- The 1-3/16 mile Preakness Stakes is the 2nd race of the historic Triple Crown series. The 2021 winner was Medina Spirit, trained by Legendary HOF trainer Bob Baffert and ridden by #1 purse winning HOF jockey John Velazquez. Shortly after this historic win Baffert was notified that his horse failed the post-race drug test. That caused the Churchill Racetrack Executives to disqualify Medina Spirit’s win and to suspend Baffert from entering any more races at Churchill until further notice. A second split blood sample was sent out for testing confirmation of the findings. Baffert convinced the Pimlico Racetrack Executives that there was a false positive due to anti-fungal skin cream applied to his horses affected skin. An agreement was reached to allow Baffert to enter Medina Spirit and 2 other horses during racing on Preakness weekend while submitting to a battery of additional pre-race testing conditions. While the Kentucky test results may be pending for several more weeks, the Pimlico testing showed no reason for Baffert’s horses not to run. On Saturday, May 15th, Medina Spirit and Concert Tour will run in the Preakness. The video presentation discusses in greater detail various factors that have surfaced as a result of the Kentucky decision. It also discusses the odds and chances for 4 of the favored horses for winning on Saturday, May 15th. Dr. Beroza HorseDoc(R) ‘Talking Horses'(R)
