The 2020 Belmont Stakes will be run on Saturday, June 20th as the 1st Triple Crown Race. Its new distance is shortened from 1 1/2 miles to 1 1/8 miles. No spectators will be allowed present to watch the race, excluding even owners and non-essential workers. The television coverage will be one of the first and only televised sports events of that day. Spectatorship and gambling should be heavy. The subsequent 1 1/4 mile Kentucky Derby, which is usually the 1st Triple Crown Race run at the beginning of May, will follow on Saturday, September 5th; with the Preakness, typically the middle race at 1 3/16 miles, to be run on Saturday, October 3rd.
